Book Review SURRENDER by Elana Johnson

If you've noticed my reviews lately, you might have noticed that I'm an eclectic reader. I love to mix things up reading everything from YA dystopian, romance, historical fiction, and of course some great mysteries. Today I get to tell you about a new YA dystopian that I just finished reading--SURRENDER by Elana Johnson is book #2 in her Possession series (Why do I have such a hard time remembering that possession is spelled with two double -s's??)

Anyway, this book rocks and Elana rocks too, just sayin'. I really enjoyed this read. Elana has some super cool tech inventions in her book which rides the line of science fiction IMO. In Surrender we meet Raine and Gunner and get to learn their part in the resistance against the total mind-numbing control of the government.

Here's the back blurb:
Forbidden love, intoxicating power, and the terror of control…
Raine has always been a good girl. She lives by the rules in Freedom. After all, they are her father’s rules: He’s the Director. It’s because of him that Raine is willing to use her talent—a power so dangerous, no one else is allowed to know about it. Not even her roommate, Vi.
All of that changes when Raine falls for Gunner. Raine’s got every reason in the world to stay away from Gunn, but she just can’t. Especially when she discovers his connection to Vi’s boyfriend, Zenn.
Raine has never known anyone as heavily brainwashed as Vi. Raine’s father expects her to spy on Vi and report back to him. But Raine is beginning to wonder what Vi knows that her father is so anxious to keep hidden, and what might happen if she helps Vi remember it. She’s even starting to suspect Vi’s secrets might involve Freedom’s newest prisoner, the rebel Jag Barque….

*I have to say that I liked Surrender better than Possession--that may be in part because I understood the world Elana had created, but I think it's mostly because the main characters were easier to identify with. Also, Elana's writing is tight, edgy, and full of style. Her characters have voice that you can't ignore and that isn't just because Gunn has Voice skilz. :)

So If you're looking for a great YA that'll pull you into a new world of Thinkers, brainwashing, and tech galore, you need to check out POSSESSION first and then read SURRENDER!

What's coming up soon on my review list?
