Killing Ruby Rose, My Take on this Awesome Book by Jessie Humphries

Update: I finished the book--it's a page turner!

Wow, the last few weeks have been killer, so I thought this was a fitting book to have in the midst of it all. I'm 34 weeks pregnant now and my other four children have so many fun things going on right now between clogging, piano, track & field days, school events, etc. I'm trying to tell you that I haven't had as much down-time as I need to finish reading this book. So my review is in process, but let me say that from what I've read so far, this book is killer!

Ruby Rose has tons of spunk, snark, courage, and maybe a penchant for trouble. The author, Jessie Humphries, has drawn an exquisite character with strong motivation, a killer personality, and true-to-life wit, snark, and teenage attitude. This is a YA book, so check it out for you or your teens.
Update: I finished the book--it's a page turner!
This story has an intense plot, multi-layered mystery and a page-turning quality that will keep you rooting for Ruby Rose while biting your nails at what might happen next. There's a great little romance building along with the sleuthing and really great guns and fighting sequences. There is quite a bit of mild language, sexual references, as well as drug references, but Ruby's character is strong-willed with good values in a realistic setting.

About KILLING RUBY ROSE: In sunny southern California, Ruby Rose is known for her killer looks and her killer SAT scores. But ever since her dad, an LAPD SWAT sergeant, died six months ago, she’s also got a few killer secrets.

To cope with her father’s death, Ruby has been trying to stay focused on school (the top spot in her class is on the line) and spending time with friends (her Jimmy Choos and Mahnolo Blahniks are nothing if not loyal), but after months of therapy and more than a few months of pathetic parenting by her mom, District Attorney Jane Rose, Ruby decides to pick up where her dad left off and starts going after the bad guys herself.

But when Ruby ends up killing a murderer in defense of another, she discovers that she’s gone from being the huntress to the hunted. There’s a sick mastermind at play, and he has Ruby in his sights. Ruby must discover who’s using her to implement twisted justice before she ends up changing Valentino red for prison orange.

With a gun named Smith, a talent for martial arts, and a boyfriend with eyes to die for, Ruby is ready to face the worst. And if a girl’s forced to kill, won’t the guilt sit more easily in a pair of Prada peep-toe pumps?
